My girlfriend has two employment interviews currently as well, a single at some insurance agency after which some other office form occupation. Nuts, she features a 4 year degree and she cannot uncover a work. Ironically adequate she features a degree in law enforcement. Regrettably most law enforcement departments possess a freeze on new hires simply because in the poor economy and low tax revenue.
I’ll print out some pictures of random shit for you personally to take a look at, will not know what type of stuff you want. I printed out a image of the mothers property on Yahoo and google maps. Because you could have been locked up Yahoo has completed some nuts shit. For instance, I can go on-line and go everywhere from the entire world and see shit at street level. So the image you see of your respective mothers property, you are able to now do that anyplace.. .Miami, London, Saudi Arabia, very very much at any place except North Korea, Cuba, and some actually isolated locations in Africa and such. But yea, it truly is known as Search engines Maps/Google Street View. They basically hired a bunch of persons to obtain in vans and drive close to the earth. On top of every van was a video recorder which recorded a full 360 degree view in the street. Hell, they even hired bicyclists to ride from the mountain bike paths and shit and fit that on Yahoo Maps at the same time. Shit is cool.
OK, I am gonna go mail this bitch out and eat some fucking pancakes ;D
University Provides Quirky Shirts Fashioned by College students By TAMAR LEWIN
Neglect the typical university sweatshirt.
At Oberlin Higher education, not a lot of college students wear college-logo clothes anyway.
But now, thanks to some seven-week entrepreneurship task, the higher education bookstore is about to offer you quirky student-designed T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts improved attuned on the Oberlin sensibility.
No less than, they seemed being last month on the style display in which the student models have been shown off with a cheering audience as well as a panel of alumni professionals, which includes Michael Alexin, Target’s vice president for item style and improvement.
“We desired a ‘Project Runway’ form of event, but needless to say Finney Chapel does not possess a runway, so it was far more a style exhibit,” claimed Andrea Kalyn, the associate dean for academic affairs and director from the task. “We wished to check out which styles resonated most.”
The winning patterns, which will likely be sold in the campus bookstore just in time for commencement more than Memorial Day weekend, are extremely Oberlin. A person shows a red-eyed albino squirrel, a typical sight on campus. One particular attributes a “womb chair,” a cushy, orange, orb-like chair that decades of Oberlin library users have crawled into to examine or nap.
“I am entirely excited to check out my perform purchased and worn,” claimed Karl Orozco, the freshman who made the womb chair.
Mr. Orozco also intended a different preferred: a view in the globe as noticed on the Oberlin campus in Ohio, along the lines belonging to the well-known New Yorker cover, with Cleveland, the Appalachians, New York and also the Atlantic Ocean receding inside the distance. Production of that shirt may be deferred right up until the fall, to provide the pupils time to deal with any copyright concerns arising through the takeoff.
Designing and deciding on the images was only component in the course of action.
“We didn’t want it to wind up becoming just a T-shirt competition; we wished to wring as considerably entrepreneurial value out of it as we could,” proclaimed Lauren Abendschein, Oberlin’s assistant director for entrepreneurships. “Beyond the pattern, the pupils had to determine the best way to make a display, how to accomplish the merchandising, how do we make it a brand?”
About a dozen college students from a variety of classes and fields of study worked for the venture, splitting into a promoting group and also a design and style group.
“Remember, Oberlin can be a liberal arts higher education without any design and style department,” claimed Mr. Alexin, who worked while using pupils all through the practice. “This was a group of smart, passionate college students majoring in neuroscience or math or music, plunging into style.”
Apparel having a university logo has the highest profit margin of any merchandise in school bookstores, according towards National Association of Higher education Shops. And Barnes & Noble, which runs far more than 600 school bookstores, which includes Oberlin’s, says that such clothes sell best at colleges with strong sports programs and group spirit.
But at a place like Oberlin, which prides itself a lot more on eclecticism than athletics, the campus aesthetic is different.
“We wear strange things, we’re a peculiar little community,” claimed Margot Hanley, a senior economics major about the promoting group.
“Oberlin pupils don’t really like to self-identify as just one thing or a different,” she proclaimed. “It’s mostly only the athletes who buy apparel that says Oberlin, so there was clearly an omitted market for us to reach.”
On the start, Ms. Hanley claimed, the college students had far-ranging ideas — maybe finding a local fabric producer in Cleveland, maybe producing a line of long dresses in sunset colors — but the short turnaround time squashed those dreams for now.
Starting this month, the bookstore is offering the group’s T-shirts for $15 and its organic cotton hoodies for $50. But the hope is for the challenge to expand next year.
“I think it’s such a cool idea that any student interested in style, advertising or business might be interested in getting involved,” Ms. Hanley explained. “I still want to check out long hemp dresses with cutouts.”
As a real estate wholesaler, it’s important to be able to quickly locate an end buyer for your deals once you put them under contract. While there are many different ways to go about doing this (some of which I have mentioned in this article, as well as this one), my favorite method for finding buyers requires zero cash, can be accomplished without ever getting up from your office chair, and can be broken down into three simple steps:
Step #1:
Once you get a property under contract, do a search on your property appraiser’s website (or whichever website you use to run comps), for all sales in the same neighborhood over the last 90 days. Once you have obtained the results of said search, you want to look for “investor comps”, which will be the lowest sales in the neighborhood.
Following is a snapshot of a search I recently conducted on the property appraiser’s website in my county, while trying to sell a deal I had under contract:
Once I have determined which comps are most likely investor comps (in this case, the top 3), I move on to step #2.
Step #2:
Head over to Google and do a search for the the owners of the investment properties that you have just identified in step #1 (this works particularly well when the owner name is a corporation or an LLC).
You may have to do a little digging until you find what you are looking for (a phone number), and sometimes you will find nothing at all. If you do end up finding the owner’s phone number, proceed to step #3.
Step #3:
Call the owner up and ask if they are looking for more investment properties in the neighborhood where your deal is located. When I use this approach, I usually say something like this:
“Hi there, my name is Steph Davis and I’m a wholesaler here in Tampa. I noticed that you own a property at 123 Main St and was just wondering if you were looking for more investments in that neighborhood….”
Depending on the initial response I get from the person on the other end of the call, I will either go on to tell them about my deal, or politely thank them for their time and move on to the next.
If you are intimidated by making cold calls to strangers, another option would be to track down the owner’s home address and send them a letter or postcard about your deal. If you decide to go that route, however, just keep in mind that it is not nearly as effective as picking up the phone and making the call.
Using this strategy to find buyers for your wholesale deals is one of the quickest, easiest, and cheapest (it’s FREE!), ways to get the job done. Give it a shot next time you have a deal under contract, and let me know how it works out!
Editor’s note: Right here will be entire text belonging to the start letter from Apple Chief Executive Steve Careers explaining why Apple won’t enable Flash or Flash-derived programs onto the apple iphone, apple ipad, or ipod nano Feel.
Apple carries a lengthy connection with Adobe. In truth, we met Adobe’s founders every time they were definitely within their proverbial garage. Apple was their very first major client, adopting their Postscript language for our new Laserwriter printer. Apple invested in Adobe and owned near 20% with the provider for a lot of a long time. The two organizations worked closely jointly to pioneer desktop publishing and there had been quite a few excellent situations. Due to the fact that golden period, the corporations have grown apart. Apple went by way of its in close proximity to death knowledge, and Adobe was drawn on the corporate market place with their Acrobat goods. Right now the two businesses even now operate with each other to serve their joint resourceful customers—Mac end users purchase close to one half of Adobe’s Innovative Suite products—but past that you can find couple of joint pursuits.
I desired to jot down several of our thoughts on Adobe’s Flash goods in order that prospects and critics may possibly improved realize why we will not permit Flash on iPhones, mp3s and iPads. Adobe has characterized our selection as becoming mainly company driven—they say we would like to secure our App Store—but in reality it really is determined by engineering difficulties. Adobe claims that we’re a closed method, and that Flash is start, but actually the opposite is genuine. Enable me clarify.
Most Flash internet websites will will need for being rewritten to service touch-based units. If designers might need to rewrite their Flash web pages, why not use current technology like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript? —Apple CEO Steve Assignments
Earliest, there is “Open”.
Adobe’s Flash items are 100% proprietary. They can be only offered from Adobe, and Adobe has single authority regarding their long term enlargement, pricing, and so forth. When Adobe’s Flash merchandise are commonly obtainable, this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re available, due to the fact they can be managed fully by Adobe and accessible only from Adobe. By practically any definition, Flash is mostly a closed process.
Apple has a lot of proprietary goods as well. Even though the operating program for any apple iphone, ipod nano and apple ipad is proprietary, we strongly presume that all benchmarks pertaining into the net have to be open up. Instead than use Flash, Apple has used HTML5, CSS and JavaScript—all unprejudiced specifications. Apple’s portable gadgets all ship with large efficiency, lower electricity implementations of those start criteria. HTML5, the brand new internet conventional which includes been followed by Apple, Yahoo and several other people, lets world-wide-web designers develop progressed graphics, typography, animations and transitions devoid of relying on 3rd celebration web browser plug-ins (like Flash). HTML5 is absolutely start and managed by a specifications committee, of which Apple is mostly a member.
Apple even produces open up requirements for that online. For instance, Apple started with a tiny available base task and made WebKit, a finish open-source HTML5 rendering engine that could be the heart from the Safari internet internet browser utilised in all our items. WebKit has become broadly followed. Yahoo and google functions it for Android’s web browser, Palm applications it, Nokia utilizes it, and RIM (Blackberry) has announced they are going to use it as well. Pretty much each smartphone web site web browser other than Microsoft’s employs WebKit. By doing its WebKit technological innovation wide open, Apple has fixed the conventional for portable world-wide-web browsers.
Next, there may be the “full web”.
Adobe has repeatedly stated that Apple phone units could not admittance “the complete web” for the reason that 75% of online video media for the online is in Flash. What they never say is the fact that virtually all this video slot machines is likewise accessible inside a extra current format, H.264, and viewable on iPhones, mp3s and iPads. YouTube, with an estimated 40% on the web’s media player, shines in an app bundled on all Apple cell phone products, using the apple ipad featuring probably the most effective YouTube breakthrough and viewing encounter at any time. Add to this online video media from Vimeo, Netflix, Facebook, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, ESPN, NPR, Time, The brand new York Situations, The Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, Individuals, National Geographic, and a lot of, a lot of other people. apple iphone, itouch and apple ipad customers aren’t missing a lot online video media.
Yet another Adobe claim is the fact Apple gadgets are not able to engage in Flash video games. This can be correct. The good news is, you will discover in excess of 50,000 video games and leisure titles for the App Stow, and most of them are free of charge. There tend to be more video games and leisure titles out there for apple iphone, ipod touch and apple ipad than for just about any other podium inside the globe.
3rd, there is certainly dependability, safety and operation.
Symantec not long ago highlighted Flash for possessing just one with the worst protection data in 2009. We also know earliest hand that Flash will be range a single cause Macs crash. We’ve got been functioning with Adobe to repair these challenges, but they’ve persisted for numerous a long time now. We do not wish to lower the dependability and safety of our iPhones, mp3s and iPads by adding Flash.
We know from debilitating practical knowledge that letting a 3rd special event layer of software program appear among the podium and also the builder in the end ends in sub-standard applications and hinders the enlargement and improvement in the base…We can’t be in the mercy of the 3rd get together selecting if and once they will make our enhancements open to our designers. —Steve Assignments
Furthermore, Flash has not done nicely on portable products. We’ve got routinely asked Adobe to present us Flash performing good on the portable gadget, any phone equipment, for any handful of quite a few years now. We certainly have for no reason noticed it. Adobe publicly claimed that Flash would ship over a smartphone in early 2009, then the further 50 percent of 2009, then the 1st one half of the year 2010, and now they say the 2nd fifty percent of the year 2010. We imagine it should sooner or later ship, but we’re glad we didn’t maintain our breath. Who is aware how it’ll accomplish?
Fourth, there does exist battery living.
To accomplish prolonged battery living when actively playing movie, portable equipment have got to decode the video slot machines in hardware; decoding it in program makes use of as well a great deal energy. A lot of the chips employed in current portable gadgets comprise a decoder labeled H.264—an sector typical that is certainly employed in each and every Blu-ray DVD player and may be used by Apple, Yahoo (YouTube), Vimeo, Netflix and quite a few other businesses.
Though Flash has in recent times extra assistance for H.264, the video clip on nearly all Flash internet sites at the moment calls for an older generation decoder that isn’t implemented in cell chips and need to be work in program. The variance is striking: on an apple iphone, such as, H.264 video lessons have fun with for approximately 10 several hours, even though video lessons decoded in computer software perform for lower than five several hours previous to the battery is completely drained.
When internet sites re-encode their video implementing H.264, they’re able to offer you them devoid of utilizing Flash whatsoever. They enjoy completely in browsers like Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome with no plugins whatsoever, and glance fantastic on iPhones, mp3s and iPads.
Fifth, there may be Contact.
Flash was fashioned for PCs making use of mice, not for reach for screens applying fingers. Such as, several Flash internet sites depend on “rollovers”, which pop up menus or other things if the mouse arrow hovers more than a certain area. Apple’s groundbreaking multi-touch interface does not use a mouse, and there’s no idea of an rollover. Most Flash internet websites will require for being rewritten to aid touch-based products. If designers will need to rewrite their Flash web sites, why not use ultra-modern technology like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript?
Even though iPhones, mp3s and iPads ran Flash, it wouldn’t solve the issue that most Flash sites need to have that they are rewritten to aid touch-based units.
Sixth, by far the most crucial motive.
Apart from the reality that Flash is closed and proprietary, has big technical disadvantages, and does not assist effect dependent gadgets, there can be an more critical motive we really don’t enable Flash on iPhones, mp3s and iPads. We’ve got discussed the downsides of employing Flash to participate in media player and interactive information from internet websites, but Adobe also wishes designers to undertake Flash to build applications that work on our phone equipment.
We know from unpleasant practical knowledge that letting a 3rd celebration layer of computer software arrive in between the bottom and also the builder in the end ends up with sub-standard applications and hinders the enlargement and improvement in the podium. If designers grow dependent on 3rd special event advancement libraries and instruments, they might only consider edge of system enhancements if when the 3rd occasion chooses to follow the brand new functions. We are unable to be in the mercy on the 3rd get together selecting if and every time they will make our enhancements open to our designers.
Flash was made through the Computer era—for PCs and mice. Flash is a very good company for Adobe, and we are able to comprehend why they need to drive it over and above PCs. However the cellular period is all about minimal electricity tools, effect interfaces and available internet standards—all locations wherever Flash falls quick. —Steve Careers
This turns into even even worse in the event the 3rd bash is supplying a cross podium progress application. The 3rd special event may well not follow enhancements from one particular bottom unless of course they may be obtainable on all of their supported programs. Consequently designers only have obtain towards the lowest prevalent denominator arranged of characteristics. Once more, we can’t accept an end result in which designers are blocked from employing our innovations and enhancements since they will not be readily available on our competitor’s types.
Flash can be a cross bottom progression instrument. It’s not Adobe’s intention to assist designers create the most effective apple iphone, ipod nano and apple ipad applications. It really is their aim to support designers create cross base applications. And Adobe continues to be painfully sluggish to follow enhancements to Apple’s types. Such as, however Mac OS X has become delivery for pretty much 10 decades now, Adobe just followed it perfectly (Cocoa) two weeks back once they shipped CS5. Adobe was the final important 3rd occasion builder to completely undertake Mac OS X.
Our motivation is simple—we prefer to offer probably the most sophisticated and modern bottom to our designers, and we would like them to stand immediately within the shoulders of the podium and set up the very best applications the community has at any time witnessed. We would like to consistently boost the system so designers can produce much more awesome, strong, enjoyable and helpful programs. Anyone wins—we offer additional units simply because we hold the greatest applications, designers achieve a broader and broader audience and consumer base, and end users are constantly delighted from the ideal and broadest assortment of applications on any podium.
Conclusions.
Flash was developed through the Computer era—for PCs and mice. Flash is a very good enterprise for Adobe, and we are able to realize why they would like to drive it over and above PCs. However the cellular age is all about lower electricity gadgets, effect interfaces and open up net standards—all locations where by Flash falls small.
The avalanche of media outlets giving their articles for Apple’s portable units demonstrates that Flash is no more time essential to enjoy media player or consume any form of net subject matter. As well as 200,000 applications on Apple’s App Retailer proves that Flash is not important for tens of numerous designers to produce graphically wealthy software programs, as well as video games.
New open up specifications made while in the cell phone age, this kind of as HTML5, will win on cellular gadgets (and PCs as well). Probably Adobe need to concentrate much more on building superb HTML5 resources to the long term, and a reduced amount of on criticizing Apple for leaving the past at the rear of.
An architect in the America’s Midsection Far East serenity procedure, who around the past 30 many years served equally Republican and Democratic administrations, is describing the continued pursuit of mediation within Palestinians and Israelis as “a false religion,” a pointless energy that could only satisfy with failure.
“I am no extended a believer,’’ Aaron Miller asserted within an document released in International Coverage and within an interview aired final night on CNN prime time news software with John King.
Mr. Miller, who due to the fact 1978 has played a important part in various administrations and evolved into a senior advisor to a number of secretaries of think, proclaimed the United Says has significantly as well quite a few other priorities from the Heart Far East as well as two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan along with a significant preoccupation with Iran’s impending standing for a nuclear energy to expend far more vitality around the Mideast peacefulness practice. He also argued that with regards to strategic priorities, serenity concerning Israelis and Palestinians ranks much under the America’s guidelines in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
Mr. Miller described the calmness practice in between Israelis and Palestinians as moribund and predicted that it will be a sacrificing proposition for President Obama. He noted how the logic behind the workout now is definitely an unthinking and automated method, which he referred to as “a type of catechism all of us could recite by heart within Point out Department officials” rather then as being a strategic necessity. He stated he has concluded that this Arab-Israeli conflict is ‘’intractable’’.
“Like all religions, the peace of mind practice has formulated a dogmatic creed, with immutable very first principles,” Mr. Miller wrote.
He stated that regardless of the a lot of phases by means of which the Heart Far East has gone, as well as the emergence on the hegemonic Iran, substantive adjustments and conflicts inside and among the Arab and Muslim nations around the world, along with the emergence of radical Islam, strategic pondering within the Mideast remained frozen close to a single unchallenged myth: namely that when Israel returned to its 1967 borders all other troubles from the location will likely be much easier to resolve.
Arguing that Mr. Obama evolved into “too speedy a convert” to this religion, Mr. Miller explained the “new president rapidly strike the Arab media working like a type of empathizer-in-chief, ratcheting up expectations even as Israelis more and more determined him tone-deaf to their demands.”
He stated the President was faced with rejections of his strategy by Palestinians, Israelis, and basically all Arab nations in his very first 12 months in workplace. He didn’t reject permanently the concept of negotiations. “Bottom collection: Negotiations can do the job, but both equally Arabs and Israelis (and American leaders) should be inclined and in a position to shell out the value. And they may be not,” is the way in which he characterized his conclusion.
Mr. Miller’s views echoed people of so a lot of Arab commentators who for perfectly finished two many years now are actually important in the Palestinian Arabs, hinting how the Arab-Israeli conflict will not be their priority possibly.
Tarek Al Homaid, editor in main in the Saudi day-to-day Asharq Alawsat, echoed that overwhelming view in the post on Sunday. “We all know how the ‘enemy’ unites individuals except inside the situation of people Palestinians. We not often hear of an men and women this sort of since the Palestinians who strive to kill a person yet another and accuse one another of treason. What’s actually catastrophic is the fact Palestinians proceed to complete this, oblivious towards simple fact the fact that rest on the Arab globe no more lengthy cares for them or about them,” he wrote.
Mr. Al Homaid went even more, noting: “Arab nations these days are consumed by their internal priorities and complications, and all of them know perfectly there’s no obtain inside Palestinian concern. It would seem the only real types who will not know which have been the leaders of Palestinians factions be they Hamas in the PLO or even the other people as well occupied shooting at a person an additional.”
Mr. Miller didn’t deal with the Arab planet guidelines in his document but argued that Mr. Obama surrounded himself with essential figures, for instance main of staff Rahm Emanuel and Secretary of Talk about Clinton, who regardless of all of the truth of an transforming more significant Center Far East and Islamic globe, still pursue what he known as “the serenity religion” and also a tougher collection toward Israel. He argued that it is usually a loosing proposition simply because the Arabs must encounter a whole new set of truth, Iran initial amongst them.
“Does the old considering peacemaking utilize to new truth? Will be the Arab-Israeli conflict nonetheless the core concern? And soon after two decades of inflated hopes adopted by violence and terror, and now by directionless stagnation, can we however think that negotiations will supply,” asked Mr. Miller.
He answers his private query inside the damaging, declaring Mr. Obama’s initial 15 months a failure when it will come on the Central Far East. “In 2009, the president pushed the Israelis, the Arabs, plus the Palestinians to acquire negotiations proceeding and was rebuffed by all 3,’’ Mr. Miller says.
Items are certainly not most likely to transform, Mr. Miller argued due to the fact Mr. Obama’s actions are devoid of an broader method on a single hand and are with no partners eager to embrace his work.
Element of America’s difficulty is the fact it faces not nations but Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. In explaining this new complex circumstance Mr. Miller proclaimed that “big choices demand powerful leaders,” such type of since the late Jordanian king, Hussein, or even the late premier of Israel, Menachem Start, who had “command of their politics to create a offer stick.” You will find no this kind of leaders right now, Mr. Miller suggested.
Much more importantly the concerns around the table have come to be a lot more hard. How can the matter of refugees be dealt with if Palestinians still demand the appropriate of return for some five million of them to Israel? And how can Jerusalem come to be a capital of two says? To not point out negotiating agreements among Israel and Syria, and among Israel and Lebanon; dismantling settlements within the Golan Heights and West Financial institution. As well massive to succeed is Mr. Miller’s solution.

Just before I overlook this with all which is going on, I arrived across a fresh resource in town when I was talking my certification test last week (or was it the week just before?). I used to be hunting on the net for just a position to consider my check when the “PC ProSchools” link came up like a possible experiment web site. It turns out it is genuinely close to me (I-96 and East Beltline) and is fairly new (too new for Google Maps - about a calendar year aged).
I thought I realized of most of the Microsoft coaching amenities in town and had for no reason observed of them. I got to my analyze about 15 minutes early and they had been entirely booked so I started out asking about their plans and reading a number of their materials. I ended up acquiring a tour with the facilities and applications by a guy named Richard Fera (who was really beneficial).
They had a fantastic instruction lab (area for 50 at completely new machines, dual projectors, dual stations from the again on the area for additional trainers (3 trainers accessible at a full type)). They had an open lab and what looked like a server place / wiring closet (which turned out for being an “advanced lab” spot). Their focus is for the infrastructure side (i.e. the MCSE route) on acquiring the servers up and running and all kinds of troubleshooting. They tend not to offer packages for computer software improvement (i.e. the MCPD route). So they had in no way noticed on the experiment I was having however it was really obvious that their testing lab received pretty a lttle bit of use.
They’re a Microsoft Platinum Partner provider for exercising (which says a whole lot about volume, graduation charge, certification charge, and placement price (>70%)). It is an intriguing model because they run it form of like anything involving a technical trainer (i.e. delivering 1 type at a time) including a university (full-blown multi-year routine). They provide you with an intense one-year program and that is open to any high-school graduate who meets some fundamental criteria. The courses are either M/W or T/Th (which includes a handful of Fridays thrown in for test-prep and labs) from 5:30-10:30, that is very a lttle bit of function. But from the conclusion make sure you have your MCSE.
Add to this that they also do placement and have projects looking for folks - positioned 48 in the lass type of 50.
Examining this post it sounds kind of like an advertisement, but it really really isn’t. I’d write about any new useful resource type, school, book, etc. that may just be helpful to men and women performing what I do (or supported the servers I must run on) and do that pretty usually. If I realized someone who was considering servers and hardware, and searching to get a work without committing 2-4 ages to school, this appears like the form of issue you’d need to have to keep you on record and get it performed quickly. It is an selection worth looking at out at minimum.

Personal computer ProSchools Graduation Achievements Computer ProSchools, a Microsoft Academy, is proud to announce its initial graduating school of 2008. In 2007 more than 300 IT Professionals graduated from Laptop or computer ProSchools’ Aid Desk/MCSA program.
FOR Quick Launch PR Log (Press Release) – Apr 18, 2008 – Over 150 graduates and their guests filed in the Region Inn & Suites in Brookfield, WI on a cool spring evening to celebrate a six month journey to becoming an IT pro.
Last August, students in observe 183 began their journey at the Brookfield Campus of Laptop or computer ProSchools, a Microsoft IT Academy licensed by the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board and accredited by ACCET. Trail 183 contained manufacturers, construction workers, secretaries, retail representatives and office workers. All committed to changing their lives and becoming Support Workplace Analysts, Network Administrators or Personal computer Technicians to name just a handful of and on March 20, 2008 they were a single step closer.
The Commencement ceremony began with a Welcoming Address from Campus Director Laura Polancich. Polancich, whose primary responsibility at Pc Pro Schools is to provide job placement companies was proud to congratulate the a lot more than 50 percent from the graduating course that had by now secured a work inside high paying IT market and made a commitment to keep on assisting people still searching. Subsequent Vice President of Educational Providers, Kate Pelchat, presented an Executive Address and congratulated the school for their hard function and dedication. Pelchat compared the graduates’ journey at Computer Pro Colleges on the CAT5 cable they had been given at their initial orientation highlighting the ups and downs and even the knots at times and shared a quote from Ernest Hemmingway that “It is good to have an conclusion to journey in direction of but it really stands out as the journey itself that matters inside end.”
Lead Instructor Mick Brentar stood previous to the course for his final lecture, so to speak. He challenged them to keep on learning always and explained how proud he is to now call them colleagues in the IT Sector. The Keynote Address was delivered by Ricardo Monteen, a Guide Workplace Manager at Manpower Corporation plus a former graduate of Desktop ProSchools from 1 year ago. He chronicled his journey, sharing how different his life is now. It was a total circle moment for everyone as Monteen explained how he had just hired four Desktop Pro Educational facilities graduates for his Aid Cubical team.
The mood was large as the evening concluded which has a punch and cake reception exactly where families, graduates and faculty shared memories; all knowing that the sum of a journey is a brand new perspective of home and for all that perspective is quite different 6 months later. Graduate Wendy Tokarz shared “Being able to graduate with my type and conquer this kind of challenging goal feels great. My family and friends are so proud of me. It is just excellent!”
At the time of this publication, less than 1 month later, around 75% of these graduates, including Tokarz have been offered IT positions and also have begun enjoying the positive aspects of their new careers.
Computer Pro Schools an ally in improving personal computer access among people with disabilities
Last Spring, New Horizons Un-Limited (NHU) had the good fortune of meeting Laura, the Campus Director of Laptop or computer Pro Schools’ Brookfield campus, at a Brew City HDI chapter meeting. At the meeting, NHU expressed a have to have for volunteer technicians to assist with their computer system refurbishing and guide receptionist counter activities. Seeing this opportunity as a strategy to give back again, even though also supporting the profession goals of her students, Laura quickly recruited students to assist NHU.
In excess of this past 12 months, NHU has welcomed virtually a dozen Computer Pro Schools students as volunteers. Although all of the student volunteers have had a solid technical foundation, a lot of of them have been lacking that all important specialized knowledge to support them win their dream work.
What NHU offers in practical knowledge towards the students is exceeded by what they, as volunteers, have contributed to NHU’s program. They have expertly refurbished dozens of laptops, which, in turn, have been donated to dozens of individuals with disabilities that would not have otherwise been able to afford a home laptop or computer.
Just like NHU’s student volunteers, the individuals that receive the refurbished personal computers are trying to increase their lives through engineering. A computer system means additional to them than most of us could ever imagine.
To several of NHU’s recipients, a laptop or computer stands out as the tool they should pursue their dream job and ultimately their own financial freedom.
NHU’s refurbishing program is run entirely by volunteer technicians. It basically would not be feasible not having the expertise and dedication of their volunteers.
NHU’s most recent group of volunteers is going to be graduating from Pc Pro Colleges in just weeks. It’s NHU’s hope that the experience the students have received will help the students reach their profession goals.
NHU would like to extend a special thank you to Craig, Dan, Fred, Jim and Jonathan for their dedication to seeing that all individuals, no matter their earnings, may have admittance to a home personal computer.

The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) has warned against regulators over reacting in the wake of the recent terrorist attempt on a Delta Air Lines passenger aircraft bound for the USA.
“It takes real political maturity to remain calm and not fall into the trap of knee jerk reactions such as imposition of new security measures,” it says.
“Additional security measures are only justified when it can be demonstrated that the benefits outweigh the additional burdens they impose on society.” it adds.
Following the 26 December attempted bombing of a Delta Air Lines flight from Amsterdam Schiphol to Detroit, the Dutch airport announced it would be introducing full body scanners.
But the AAPA says “there is insufficient evidence regarding the effectiveness” of full body scanners, “to justify their immediate deployment”.
“Rather than focus on ever more intrusive passenger screening, the key lesson from this, and previous terrorist incidents, is the critical importance of effective intelligence gathering and analysis,” it adds.
If Fritz Lohman had only known, he would have waited another 13 hours to kick the bucket.
Lohman, 87, a SoHo real-estate magnate who pioneered the exhibition of gay art, died at home at about 11 a.m. on New Year’s Eve after a long illness.
If he had instead passed away after midnight Jan.1, his partner of 48 years could have avoided paying at least $3 million in estate taxes — thanks to Congress letting that levy lapse for 2010.
“He would probably say, ‘Why didn’t they tell me? I could have waited another day,’ ” said Charles Leslie, 76, Lohman’s business and life partner — and the sole beneficiary to his $10 million estate.
“It’s so utterly ludicrous,” Leslie said. “You think you’ve done everything right, taken every precaution, and then by some congressional fiat your life turns upside down.”
“What a difference a day makes — literally,” added Leslie’s estate lawyer, Erica Bell.
Bell and others are shocked that Congress failed by the end of 2009 to extend the “death tax” in 2010 for the richest Americans. The rate is 45 percent of assets beyond the first $3.5 million.
Under current law, the estate tax is gone for one year, but will be reinstated — and raised — in 2011 for beneficiaries of more than $1 million.
“That means, if you have a choice and someone is probably going to die soon, it would be better this year than next,” Bell said. “The joke is, ‘Throw momma from the train.’ ”
She added, “This is not good public policy. There’s something really wrong with a tax law that suggests when it’s good to die.”
But that dilemma tormented another New York family whose wealthy mother was terminally ill in December.
“The family could have put her on aggressive, artificial life support, with tubes and medical devices, until January 1, thereby saving $3 million in federal estate taxes,” a source said. “The family chose the kinder path — letting her die naturally and peacefully.” She didn’t make it to New Year’s Day.
Leslie said his tax bills may force him to sell some of the SoHo commercial properties he and Lohman bought years ago, investments that made them a fortune. The debonair Lohman also ran a high-end interior decorating business.
Leslie is stoic about the irony of the timing of Lohman’s death.
“You can’t second guess things like that. We do not happen to life — life happens to us.

On Friday I received a
“legislative
alert” from the Texas PTA about “a new drug known as
‘strawberry quick’” that “smells like strawberry” and “is being
handed out to kids in school yards.” The message itself has a
distinctive odor, more reminiscent of a barnyard than of a berry
patch:
There is a very scary thing going on in the schools right now
that we all need to be aware of.
There is a type of crystal meth going around that looks like
strawberry pop rocks (the candy that sizzles and “pops” in your
mouth). It also smells like strawberry and it is being handed out
to kids in school yards. They are calling it strawberry meth or
strawberry quick.
Kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy and are being
rushed off to the hospital in dire condition. It also comes in
chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange.
Please instruct your children not to accept candy from
strangers—not even candy that looks like this from a friend
(who may have been given it and believed it is candy). They should
take any of this “candy” that they may have to a teacher, principal
or parent immediately.
Pass this email on to as many people as you can (even if they
don’t have kids) so that we can raise awareness and hopefully
prevent any tragedies from occurring.
A person of ordinary intelligence, even if he did not know about
the extensive debunking of the “candy-flavored meth” story that has
been done by Snopes.com,
by Bob Curley at
Join Together, and even by the Drug
Enforcement Administration, would have to wonder: How does a
drug dealer benefit by tricking little kids into thinking that
methamphetamine is candy? How likely is it that a sixth-grader,
having been “rushed off to the hospital in dire condition” after
ingesting “strawberry quick,” will want to repeat the experience?
Assuming that such (unreported and undocumented) incidents are an
unintended result of a marketing strategy aimed at people who know
they are buying speed, how much sense does it make to flavor a drug
that people typically snort or smoke?
The Texas PTA is not alone in passing along these rumors. The
legislative alert includes a link to an undated Fox News story that
asks:
Have you heard of “Strawberry Quick?” It’s not a kid’s
drink—it’s a kid’s methamphetamine. Drug dealers mix meth with
Kool-Aid in an attempt to make it look and taste better. And again,
there’s the snappy name. While Strawberry Quick hasn’t made a big
splash in Dallas [thanks to the Texas PTA’s vigilance, presumably],
it is gaining ground in other parts of the country….Anyone who’s
seen a meth addict, with their scabbed skin and rotting teeth,
knows what a con “Strawberry Quick” is.
The Fox story quotes a DEA agent in Dallas who confirms that
drug dealers are “looking for a new consumer” and that “good
marketing” helps but who does not actually mention strawberry meth
(let alone “chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and
orange” meth). The January issue of the DEA newsletter
Microgram
noted that “‘flavored methamphetamine’ (most notably
‘strawberry meth’) has received extensive and often alarmist
coverage in the mass media over the past two years.” But with the
exception of a single grape-smelling sample tested by a DEA lab in
late 2008, which included “tiny purple specks” that may have been
“bits of a grape flavored candy or lollipop,” the agency has not
been able to confirm the existence of anything like a bright pink,
strawberry-flavored substance produced by mixing meth with drink
powder, let alone found that it is “gaining ground” anywhere.
Naturally, that fact has not stopped members of Congress from
trying to ban
it.
According to the government-sponsored Monitoring
the Future Study (PDF), by the way, meth use among
eighth-graders has been falling since the survey started asking
about it in 1999.
Plus a bit about hair weaves. His turn was hugely appreciated and – though
this was doubtless far from his principal purpose – hundreds of copies of
his book were sold.
The institute had not previously given houseroom in its hallowed halls to many
sportsmen. But you suspect after Tuesday’s successful confessional, there
will be others to follow.
Doubtless an invitation has already been issued to Tiger Woods.
Nick Reding: Methland: New York: Bloomsbury: 2009.
Oelwin, Iowa is a dying US rural town. And P/crystal meth is the bullet that is slowly killing it.
Granted, there are other precipitating factors. The United States has no meaningful strong independent national trade union movement, comprehensive welfare state or nationwide public health system. As the US economy has declined under Bush II, small-town criminal crystal meth manufacture, its illicit profits, associated criminal and interpersonal violence and injury and death from toxic meth lab chemicals has skyrocketed. Given the ready availability of such chemicals from agricultural sources, smalltown rural America has been especially hard hit.
So, why is this book being reviewed on an LGBT website? There are some troublesome echoes of the growing cascade effects of P/crystal meth on US metropolitan gay communities and HIV/AIDS. For instance, Reding refers to one Roland Jarvis (37). Jarvis was a divorced meatpacker, got hooked on meth as a stimulant for his arduous job and got disfigured when under intoxication from the drug, he burnt down his mother’s home while working in his meth lab. To get his hands on meth, Jarvis didn’t mind sex with men in exchange for the drug. Given the crystal sex phenomenon, I suspect that it probably wasn’t safe sex, for that matter.
In this context, gender also plays an unexpected role. Lori Arnold is sister to Tom Arnold (Roseanne Barr’s ex-husband). She was the one who was chiefly responsible for creating a vertically integrated supply chain and industrial scale meth production in her state.
Unfortunately, she found ready clients. Because of the high level of working-class US deunionisation and the absence of public health protection, people may ’self-medicate’ on alcohol and crystal meth to blot out the misery of their unemployed or low waged, arduous employed lives. Due to US pharmaceutical corporate greed, nothing was done about ephedrine and pseudoephedrine availablity until it was much too late, either. Moreover, NAFTA has a shadow side- Mexican truck traffic has increased, which enables Mexican border state drug lords to smuggle ephedrine and pseudoephedrine into the United States for meth lab production, or the finished product, due to the Combat Meth Act 2006. Unfortunately, too, US media outlets have ignored the issue since interest spiked and then subsided in 2006. Sadly, though, the problem may be too entrenched to go away easily.
UPDATE: Fort Myers Police make largest crystal meth bust
FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police busted six people in connection to a crystal meth trafficking scheme.
One of the six people arrested includes Jose Flores, the owner of the Palm Beach Boulevard auto dealership, City of Palms Auto.
“Tell you the truth, I don’t believe it yet,” said Leandro Rodriguez, manager of a nearby auto dealership.
People who know Flores were shocked to learn he was put behind bars, accused of negotiating a drug deal that brought what police call a significant amount of crystal meth to Fort Myers.
“Pretty nice guy, he drove kind of an old car, a 1996 white car, not a lot of money on him…nothing like that,” said Rodriguez.
We asked if there was ever any indication Flores had been negotiation drug deals out of the dealership, “No indication, never,” he said.
Police say Flores made it onto their radar about eight months ago after hearing he allegedly negotiated smaller drug deals out of the business.
“We knew we had high level distributor here and we just maintained constant surveillance, figured out what his habits were, what his contacts were stuff that he did when he didn’t know we were with him and we were,” explained Sgt. Jay Rodriguez with the Fort Myers Police Department.
Using a confidential informant, police were able to get Flores to negotiate a deal to bring down six pounds of crystal meth, $140,000 worth from Georgia to Fort Myers.
The deal went down on Friday at Flores’ home on Fifth Street East.
Six people were arrested, including Flores, his bodyguard Obdulio Medina, and the supplier who drove the drugs to Southwest Florida, Gladis-Arias Garcia.
Police say the three other suspects in custody are in the country illegally from Mexico, including Arias-Garcia, Miguel Sanchez and Javier Medina Santoyo.
Mexico is the same place police believe the drugs originated, in a so-called “super lab”.
“The quality is very high quality, the crystals are super hard, so we do believe these came from South America, Mexico,” said Sgt. Rodriguez.
Police aren’t sure how the drugs made it across the U.S. border. We are told when the drugs made it to the Atlanta area, they were driven to Southwest Florida.
Detectives do not believe the crystal meth was to stay in Fort Myers, instead, they say it probably would have been divided up and transported to other areas for sale.
Police say this may be one of the biggest crystal meth busts ever for the city. The US Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.
All six were in Lee County Jail custody, each on $30,000 bond as of Tuesday afternoon.
Something apparently happened. First TechCruch reported Yelp was going to sell to Google for $500 million or more. There was a frenzy of speculative coverage (including by me) that followed this initial report. The NY Times appeared to independently confirm that Yelp was going to sell. And I spoke to someone (not at Yelp) who confidently said that a deal was happening though he indicated its particular form might be different than what was reported.
Back in the hall of mirrors TechCrunch is now saying that the deal is not happening, that âYelp walked awayâ and that the âdeal went sideways.â TechCrunch says it was CEO Jeremy Stoppelmanâs decision. If so it was in consultation with others, including VCs/board members. This is not a decision that Stoppelman would make â or have the authority to make â on his own.
Mike Arrington speculates that another bidder/party came in and âgave Stoppelman the confidenceâ to say no to the deal (âApple, Microsoftâ). TechCrunch also says its sources convey that Yelp will remain independent for the time being.
Some Yelp partisans may rejoice at the apparent rejection of Googleâs offer: âJeremy join us and together we can rule the (local) galaxy as father and son.â To some this deal might have seemed a betrayal of Yelpâs community values and mission; however that wouldnât be a legitimate basis for rejecting it. Something much more specific and concrete that must have happened.
As Arrington suggests, perhaps a third party investor has come forward with the promise of a big cash infusion. Or perhaps the board now sees an IPO opportunity down the line. But you donât walk away â and your hungry investors donât let you walk away â from this kind of money without some very clear and concrete alternatives.
Wild, remember when I said Facebook should buy Yelp? I was hoping that Facebook would make a real search play and provide some competition for Google. Looks like my dream didn’t come true and Mike Arrington over at TechCrunch is reporting that Yelp is in final deal stage with Google for about half a billion. Rafat Ali of Paid Content says that that valuation seems low, and I agree. Maybe this is being hung out there to cause a bidding war.
What is at stake here?
Well, when you search for restaurants or businesses on Google, what do you see? Yelp reviews under many of those businesses. But if you are on the iPhone app Yelp makes, what else do you see? Offers from those businesses. THAT is a direct threat on Google’s advertising business (or augmentation if you are looking at it positively).
Recently building43 and I visited Yelp to get an inside look and you can see a lot of their strategy there.

Focus Under Pressure: Why IT Governance Becomes Mission-Critical in a Down Economy
This white paper presents the five parts of a sound IT Governance system and strategy in detail, then illustrates how on-demand IT Governance enables IT and business leaders to cut costs and become more productive in these lean times.
Seven Design Requirements for Web 2.0 Threat Prevention
This white paper outlines the new Web 2.0 threats, explains why most existing security solutions can’t provide adequate protection, and proposes seven design requirements for Web 2.0 threat protection.
Google may pay over $500M for Yelp in a deal that could help it tap a lucrative local ads market.
Google Inc is in talks to buy Yelp Inc, the popular website for reviews of local businesses, in a deal that could help the Internet search leader tap a lucrative local ads market, media reports say.
Google may pay more than $500 million for Yelp, according to reports confirmed to Reuters by a person familiar with the situation. It came as the Web giant embarked on an acquisition spree that has netted at least five companies since August.
By swallowing privately held Yelp, Google would own one of the Web’s most popular repositories of local restaurant and small-business information, including more than 8 million reviews penned by Yelp’s users.
That trove of content and a heavy focus on local businesses could provide a valuable foothold for Google as it seeks to convince local merchants to shift their advertising spending to the Internet.
“The local advertising market is a multibillion dollar market that for all intents and purposes is still untapped on the Web,” said Needham & Co analyst Mark May.
In July, Internet portal Yahoo Inc teamed up with AT&T Corp in a partnership that involved the phone company’s 5,000 sales people selling Yahoo advertising inventory to local businesses.
News of the recent talks between Google and Yelp — backed by Benchmark Capital and other venture capital firms — and the $500 million price tag were first reported by the blog TechCrunch.
The source familiar with the situation said talks were currently bogged down by concerns among some Yelp investors that the company could be selling itself prematurely, and that it could be worth far more than $500 million if it had a chance to develop its business.
The source added that Friday’s news stories may have been floated to put pressure on for the deal to be consummated at a price that was too low.
SECOND-TIME SUITOR
Yelp said in an emailed statement that it is frequently approached to discuss “partnerships, investments and more, and the company does not comment on private discussions that may occur.”
A Google spokeswoman said the company does not comment on rumors or speculation.
Google has had its eye on Yelp for some time. According to one former Google executive, the Internet company had had “early discussions” with Yelp about an acquisition several years ago, but ultimately passed on the deal.
“Yelp doesn’t monetize very well, so it’s always a bit hard to justify an acquisition,” the person said.
The local businesses that Yelp sells online advertising to are more interested in promoting their businesses through coupons than online ads, he added, noting he believed Yelp was still an unprofitable business.
Yelp was founded in 2004 and has received $30 million in funding from Benchmark Capital, DAG Ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners.
The acquisition talks are the latest in a string of recent deals by Google, including the $750 million acquisition of mobile ad firm AdMob announced in November, that are designed to extend Google’s reach into new advertising markets.
The world’s No. 1 Internet search engine generated roughly $22 billion in revenues last year, but has seen its top line growth slow from the 40 percent-plus clip it was managing as recently as early 2008.
Google has stepped up efforts to court local merchants recently, encouraging businesses to register their information on its small-business online directory.
But some analysts say Google will have its work cut out trying to sell online ads to local merchants more comfortable with traditional channels like local television, newspapers and the Yellow Pages.
Needham’s May estimated that Yelp, which had 8.9 million unique visitors to its site in November according to comScore, is generating revenue at an annual rate of $15 million to $20 million.
“That’s a pretty tough nut to crack,” May said about selling online ads to local merchants. “Whether Google can crack the code on it, is still to be seen.”
Google is rumored to be in talks to acquire local reviews site Yelp for about $500 million. If the deal happens, then it’s a good move for Yelp and its backers, who are selling at what I think is the top of the market. It is also a good-short term move for Google as well. The Yelp gang gets to walk away into the sunshine, getting top dollar at a time when they’re about to be disrupted by a whole new class of more real-time and socially contextual services. In her post earlier this week, Liz wrote:
This is why I see so much value in online networks that are more intimate. The wisdom of the crowds is great and all, but itâs just too much to take in. And most importantly, reviews are a matter of taste. Sure, tacos and beer may appeal to most everybody in the core Yelp demographic, but far more awesome would be things that reflect my actual preferences, as approximated by my friendsâ tastes. Intersecting where we are and who we know should become an amazing indicator of what we want.
Now Yelp’s business wasn’t going to go away in the next two years, but it would have started to stagnate as the web started to move away from it. That is why the company is smart to take Google’s cash.
In the near term, the deal is good for Google as well, since it gives it a fighting chance to build a decent enough local business, something it’s struggled with in the recent past. Greg Sterling, a well-known analyst who tracks the local advertising markets for SearchEngineLand, writes:
If Google does buy Yelp, what exactly does it get? It gets a local-social network with roughly 26 million users across the U.S., Canada and the UK. Yelp reportedly has 8.5 million reviews. This is a huge amount of content that Google canât generate itself and which it is already leaning on pretty heavily on its Place Pages as part of its increasing focus on local.
As we’ve pointed out in the past, Google has a Vitamin S deficiency, S being social. For instance, when Google recently announced its “Favorite Places on Google” program it decided to tabulate them by “counting how many times people search for a business, look up directions to it, or click through to its web site.”
Anyway, if Google does buy Yelp, it will be a major shift for the company and its overall strategy. The company, as Jason Calacanis so succinctly said (via Twitter) “is buying the items in their search results. About.com next?”

This is one of the worst bills that I have ever come across
In the wake of the collapse of many a 401k and a Ponzi scheme or three, it’s no surprise that a bill called the Investor Protection Act of 2009 has attracted significant support in Congress. In 60 sections over 113 pages, the Act clarifies existing legislation and provides new oversight powers to the Securities Exchange Commission. But, buried on page 92, there’s language that would remove the safe harbor protections that keep ISPs from being liable for information transmitted over their networks, at least when that information involves a specific form of financial fraud.
The bill, HR 3817, was introduced in October, and it recently was approved by the relevant Committee on a 41 to 28 vote, which should send it along to the full House for consideration. Most of the bill involves a laundry list of provisions intended to improve the policing of investments, via things like increased whistleblower protections and the ability to reject binding arbitration for disputes. An Investor Advisory Committee would be established, and the SEC would gain additional surveillance authorities.
On page 91, however, there are a couple of provisions specific to a little-known federal agency called the SIPC, or Securities Investor Protection Corporation. This group, established back in the 1970s, appears to be the brokerage equivalent of the federal authority that cleans up after banks that go belly up. For the most part, this involves ensuring that individuals and groups that have investments that are held by a third party don’t lose those investments if said third party goes bankrupt. Brokerages need to be members of the SIPC, which presumably acts as a badge of credibility (although not an especially exclusive one; searching the member database for those based in New York pulled out about 1,400 entries).
So, it’s no surprise that the SIPC has been targeted by fraudsters that are interested in borrowing some of the credibility it confers. This has ranged from simple situations, where someone claims to be an SIPC member when they’re not, to an entire site designed to look like the SIPCs, but provide none of its protections.
According to CNET’s Declan McCullagh, who has been tracking the legislation, the SIPC let it be known that it would like a bit of added protection from these fraudulent claims. Hence, Section 508, “Penalty For Misrepresentation Of Sipc Membership Or Protection.”
This section only has two provisions, one of which simply targets those who fraudulently misrepresent their SIPC status with liability for damages, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to five years in jail. It’s the second provision where things get a bit interesting: it holds ISPs liable for damages if the fraudulent information goes through their network or winds up stored on their servers.
There are a couple of significant caveats. The first is that the ISP has to be aware that the material involves a misrepresentation of the sort that’s prohibited by the first provision. The ISP can also be considered liable if, once informed of the infringing content, they take no action to prevent its access.
The problem isn’t so much the threat of these sanctions so much as the lack of clarity about how they might be implemented. It’s possible to envision a system like the DMCA takedown notices used to trigger the removal of material that infringes copyright, but has often been used to simply silence messages someone doesn’t like. Another unfortunate alternative is a situation similar to Andrew Cuomo’s crusade against child porn, where many ISPs responded by simply eliminating Usenet access.
In any case, it appears that most of the parties involved with inserting the language didn’t think through the potential implementation challenges clearly, and there are indications that the language may be revised before the bill progresses any further. Still, it’s a bit disturbing to see that the first response to fraudulent content on the Internet is an attempt to force the ISPs to police the content they transmit.
Most of the retailers and various mobile network providers are in consistent effort so to satisfy all the segments of the mobile users, as well as to prove themselves a mobile phone czar. For this reason, they offer various types of deals, free gifts and schemes to lure their customers. Among these offers, the contract, pay as you go and cheap Sim free mobile phones are the widely chosen mobile phone deals in the present day scenario. It solely depends upon the users to select any one of these deals to enjoy the telecommunication service. If one opts for a pay as you go deal or contract mobile phone deal then he will have to stay connected with the same network for a definite time period.
The SIM free handsets, however, offer the users the freedom of selecting network provider of their own choice. If we make a detailed analysis about the mobile market carefully then we will be able to find various options of cheap SIM free mobile phones with attractive gifts and discount. There are several advantages of going for such mobile phones. The basic advantage is that one can get very good handsets at cheaper rates in comparison to other types of mobile phones. Another benefit is that the users are not forced to stay connected with the same network for a definite time period. Moreover, people can change their network provider, whenever they want. When mobile users go out of the station, these simless mobile phones help them to save extra expenditure from huge amount of roaming charges. In other cases, when the users go for long journeys, the contract mobile users are needed to shift their handset’s network to a particular mobile network which is decided by their network provider.
Some people have a misconception that cheap SIM free mobile phones do not come with latest specifications and functionalities. But the fact is that all the modern advanced technology buffed mobile phones are now available at low price and come fully loaded with plethora of advanced features. The users can fetch mobile phones of some of the leading companies such as Blackberry, HTC, Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and Motorola without any SIM card. These mobile phones are also known as non contract mobile phones, as these phones do not indulge the users in any type of mobile phone contracts.
The cheap SIM free mobile phones come preloaded with mammoth of high end features and functionalities that are craved by the widget freaks. These widgets perfectly match with the taste of the advanced users and relax the users from paying handsome amount of monthly bills and extra charges. All the mobile phones that are available in the present day scenario can be bought without any compulsion of taking any SIM card of any particular network provider.
Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-mobile and 3 are some of the UK’s major mobile network companies which grant network services for SIM free mobile phone users. Whilst the popularity of the cheap SIM free mobile phones is increasing with every new sunrise, Internet is not left behind in offering informative and fruitful service to the people. Most of the renowned websites offer the information about price, features and durability of several models. So, one can visit various online shopping portals and can access reliable Internet websites to find all the low price SIM free mobile phones at a single junction. All the cheap SIM free mobile phones come with GSM technology. This technology allows the users to select the mobile network, depending on their preferences and needs.
Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) — Spending on U.S. construction unexpectedly rose in September as residential builders rushed to finish projects in anticipation of a possible end to the first- time home-buyers tax credit.
The 0.8 percent increase, the biggest since September 2008, followed a revised 0.1 percent drop in August that was previously reported as a 0.8 percent gain, Commerce Department figures today showed. Spending on residential and government projects climbed, while outlays on private commercial construction slumped for a fifth consecutive month.
Low borrowing costs, price declines and the government’s $8,000 tax credit for first-time buyers stabilized sales and spurred the biggest increase in residential construction in 26 years in the third quarter. Lawmakers are working on extending the credit, which may help support construction even as commercial real estate falters.
“Residential construction continued its modest recovery from extremely depressed levels,” Steven Wood, president of Insight Economics LLC in Danville, California, said before the report. “However, non-residential construction remained in a downward spiral as vacancy rates were still climbing and rents were still falling.”
Economists forecast construction spending would fall 0.2 percent, after a previously-reported 0.8 percent gain in August, according to the median of 44 projections in a Bloomberg News survey. Estimates ranged from a drop of 1 percent to a gain of 0 percent.
Homebuilding Rebound
Private residential construction spending increased 3.9 percent in September, the biggest gain since July 2003, after a 3.8 percent increase the month before. Compared with a year earlier, it was down 27 percent.
Non-residential construction, including public projects, decreased 0.4 percent.
Public construction rose 1.3 percent, led by government spending on power plants, streets and highways and transportation projects.
Private commercial real-estate, which includes factories, hotels and office buildings, dropped 1.8 percent for a second month. The numbers are just the beginning of what will probably be a “huge crash in commercial real estate,” billionaire investor Wilbur L. Ross Jr. said Oct. 30.
‘Wrong Direction’
“All of the components of real estate value are going in the wrong direction simultaneously,” said Ross, one of nine money managers participating in a government program to remove toxic assets from bank balance sheets. “Occupancy rates are going down. Rent rates are going down and the capitalization rate — the return that investors are demanding to buy a property — are going up.”
Commercial-property sales in the U.S. will fall to the lowest in almost two decades, according to data compiled by Real Capital Analytics Inc. in September.
The government is trying to prevent residential real estate from falling even more.
The Obama administration on Oct. 29 endorsed plans to extend the $8,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers, saying it is helping stabilize the U.S. economy. The plan currently requires purchasers to close on their homes by Nov. 30.
The Senate’s new proposal would include a $6,500 credit for homebuyers who have lived in their prior residence for at least five years, Sen. Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said Oct. 29.
Less Inventory
Ryland Group Inc., a U.S. homebuilder catering to first- time buyers, said last week that its inventory of unsold homes dropped 30 percent in the third quarter compared with a year earlier and that its net loss narrowed.
The company is “in an excellent position” to profit when sales increase, Chief Executive Officer Larry Nicholson said on a conference call Oct. 29, a day after the company’s earnings release.
Meritage Homes Corp.’s home orders rose for the first time in three years during the quarter ended in September, the company reported Oct 26. Buyers ordered 1,098 homes in the period, up from 1,013 a year earlier. The builder reported a loss of $17.8 million for the quarter, compared with a loss of $144 million a year earlier.
Construction spending figures are based on expenditures over the life of a project, with about 75 percent of value accounted for in the first four months.

Every now an then, it is possible to stumble upon a unique, fun, and satisfying event during a vacation away from home. Our family found one such activity when we were recently vacationing in Naples, Florida.
An internet search led to a website detailing dinner cruises aboard a “luxury yacht” named the Naples Princess. A phone call from our condo revealed that yes, they were sailing that evening, and yes, they had space for my family, a party of eight. The menu also sounded pretty good, too! Reservations were immediately booked, and their representative gave me specific driving directions, which was very handy as I had never been to Naples before.
About an hour later we all pulled into the Port O Call dock area, purchased our tickets, and boarded the beautiful, luxurious, 94’ long yacht Naples Princess. The ship had two levels, with full bars on both, an open air observation deck on both the bow and the stern. In addition, there was a covered open air deck at the stern on the second level. The very clean heads were on the first level.
Our cruise started at 7:00PM, and within about 5 minutes from cast off dinner was served. And what a dinner it was! Buffet style, all you can eat BBQ ribs to die for, baked chicken breast that melted in your mouth, with both complimented by baked beans, garlic potatoes, coleslaw and rolls. Included with the meal was either coffee or water. The full bar had soft drinks as well as normal ‘bar fare’ available as an extra charge. The seating was at tables arranged for you party, and all eight of us had plenty of elbow room at our table. The seats were very comfortable, linens crisp, tableware of high quality, and candles added to the low lighting in the dining area. The interior of the rooms was finished in a dark hardwood, with tinted windows allowing for excellent viewing in all directions. This ship was very classy, and the crew made us feel like the most important passengers that had ever sailed on the Naples Princess.
On our cruise there were only an additional 20 or so people, so we all had plenty of room to maneuver around the ship. After dinner was over (did I mention the delicious cheese cake, fudge cake and carrot cake we had for dessert?) our attention was drawn totally to the magnificent view from any position on the ship. The Captain was narrating as we cruised along, directing our vision to points of interest along the inland waterway between the mainland and an area known as the Ten Thousand Islands. His narration was loud enough to be heard; however it was in no way overpowering if you wanted to make conversation with the people around you. The “homes” (really mansions) that we saw were honestly indescribable. Most were 5000 square feet and up, some with guest houses as large as most folks’ primary residences. It is hard to imagine that a lot of these homes were “just winter residences”. Some vacant lots are still available for a mere 4 to 6 million dollars, if you are interested.
In addition to the beautiful developed area, we were treated to seeing some natural, untouched mangrove islands, complete with a wide assortment of birds. A real treat was the sighting of several dolphins, which frolicked by our ship for a while.
The seas were too rough on the night of our cruise to venture out into the Gulf of Mexico, but that was really not a disappointment of any great magnitude, as the cruise was delightful without the Gulf. I spoke with Jim Albert, the Captain of the Naples Princess, about his feelings being in this enterprise. A Navy veteran, he loves his work, pilots the ship 3 times a week, and thoroughly enjoys interacting with his passengers. I learned from him that Chef Dana had prepared our entire meal on board the ship’s galley. Jim said she has been the Chef for 13 years, and is by herself capable of preparing food for 100. The only time she needs assistance is when the ship board party goes over 100. And her galley is very tiny!
What a marvelous time we all enjoyed on this cruise. Great food, good company, extraordinary service, and a scenic panorama presented in a way that most will never see. The night we sailed a price special was in place, with a buy one adult get the second at half price offer. Thus, with $65 as full price, our price for two adults was only $97.50. We had one child, also half price, and our youngest granddaughter was no charge. A most reasonable charge for a most entertaining evening.
When you visit Naples, don’t you dare miss a cruise on the Naples Princess!
WASHINGTON — A programming overhaul of the White House’s Web site has set the tech world abuzz. For low-techies, it’s a snooze – you won’t notice a thing.
The online-savvy administration on Saturday switched to open-source code for – meaning the programming language is written in public view, available for public use and able for people to edit. http://www.whitehouse.gov
“We now have a technology platform to get more and more voices on the site,” White House new media director Macon Phillips told The Associated Press hours before the new site went live on Saturday. “This is state-of-the-art technology and the government is a participant in it.”
White House officials described the change as similar to rebuilding the foundation of a building without changing the street-level appearance of the facade. It was expected to make the White House site more secure – and the same could be true for other administration sites in the future.
“Security is fundamentally built into the development process because the community is made up of people from all across the world, and they look at the source code from the very start of the process until it’s deployed and after,” said Terri Molini of Open Source for America, an interest group that has pushed for more such programs.
Having the public write code may seem like a security risk, but it’s just the opposite, experts inside and outside the government argued. Because programmers collaborate to find errors or opportunities to exploit Web code, the final product is therefore more secure.
For instance, instead of a dozen administration programmers trying to find errors, thousands of programmers online constantly are refining the programs and finding potential pitfalls.
Story continues below
It will be a much faster way to change the programming behind the Web site. When the model was owned solely by the government, federal contractors would have to work through the reams of code to troubleshoot it or upgrade it. Now, it can be done in the matter of days and free to taxpayers.
Obama’s team, which harnessed the Web to win an electoral landslide in 2008 and raise millions, has been working toward the shift since it took office Jan. 20 with a White House site based on technology purchased at the end of President George W. Bush’s administration.
It didn’t let the tech-savvy Obama team build the new online platform it wanted. For instance, 60,000 watched Obama speech to a joint session of Congress on health care. One-third of those stayed online to talk with administration officials about the speech. But there are limits; the programming used to power that was built for Facebook, the popular social networking Web site.
“We want to improve the tools used by thousands of people who come to WhiteHouse.gov to engage with White House officials, and each other, in meaningful ways,” Phillips said.
It’s also a nod to Obama’s pledge to make government more open and transparent. Aides joked that it doesn’t get more transparent than showing the world a code that their Web site is based on.
Under the open-source model, thousands of people pick it apart simultaneously and increase security. It comes more cheaply than computer coding designed for a single client, such as the Executive Office of the President. It gives programmers around the world a chance to offer upgrades, additions or tweaks to existing programs that the White House could – or could not – include in daily updates.
Yet the system – known as Drupal – alone won’t make it more secure on its own, cautioned Ari Schwartz of the Center for Democracy and Technology.
“The platform that they’re moving to is just something to hang other things on,” he said. “They need to keep up-to-date with the latest security patches.”
